Laura Landers

Artist | Visual Historian | Community Pillar | Advocate

Laura Landers is a celebrated Northern Ontario artist, former gallery owner, and cultural advocate whose works have captured the landscape, heritage, and unique character of the Temiskaming region for decades.

The Artist of the North

Landers is widely recognized for her expressive, vibrant watercolors and paintings that depict the distinctive architecture and rugged landscapes of Temiskaming Shores, Cobalt, and the surrounding areas. From the historic headframes of old silver mines to peaceful lakeshores and rolling agricultural fields, her artwork captures the soul of Northern Ontario. Her style bridges fine art with visual storytelling, earning her a cherished place among collectors and art lovers across Canada.

The Cultural Champion

Beyond her easel, Landers has been an influential force in fostering the local arts scene in Temiskaming Shores. Before her retirement, her long-time venue, Laura’s Art Shoppe—a favorite destination in Cobalt—and her work with regional arts organizations provided a platform for Northern artists, organized exhibitions, and championed the preservation of local history through visual media. Her gallery served as an essential cultural hub in the community, connecting residents and visitors with regional craftsmanship.

The Preserver of History

Much like the local historians who came before her, Landers uses her creative talent to document a changing landscape. Her detailed depictions of historic buildings - many of which have since been lost to time - serve as an invaluable visual record of Temiskaming’s industrial, agricultural, and architectural heritage. Through her art, workshops, and community involvement, she remains a passionate advocate for keeping the history and vibrant culture of Northern Ontario alive for future generations.
